Lafayette Recreation DepartmentWe're eager to build a strong and effective team for your child, and we believe that coaches and volunteers play a critical role in achieving that goal. At this time, we may have a coach for your child's team, but we're always on the lookout for more individuals who are passionate about coaching. Therefore, we encourage you to reach out to Katie Raymond ([email protected]) if you're interested in becoming a coach or know someone who might be. We firmly believe that anyone can make a great coach, regardless of prior experience. Furthermore, we're committed to providing all the necessary training and support to help you succeed in this role.

Coaches, it's important to remember that every child deserves a chance to get in the game. After all, what's the point of winning if the kids aren't playing? The philosophy of giving every child an equal opportunity to play is key to building a positive, supportive environment where young athletes can thrive. As the saying goes, 'I'd rather play and lose than sit on the bench and win,' and this couldn't be more true for our youth. Studies by the National Association for Youth Sports show that nearly 90% of kids would rather be on the field, playing regularly—even on a losing team—than sitting on the bench of a winning one. By volunteering as a coach, you're not just teaching skills; you're giving every child the chance to participate, grow, and love the game. HEAD's UP to Youth Sports!
